Today’s voice applications are offered on dedicated terminals supporting DECT/PWT standards. They suffer from small displays, not much memory and limited processing power. ‘New age’ terminals, also known as Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), break these barriers. It now becomes possible to benefit from an enhanced, coloured graphical user interface. Internet access, Office applications, Personal Information Managers, Directory accesses, Unified communications and Mobility are no longer dedicated to Laptops and Desktops. In such an environment, Voice over IP controls loss of packets, packet inversion and network delays thanks to Packet Loss Concealment, RTP time stamping and dynamic jitter buffer technologies to name but a few.
